Kolkata ( Metro Rail News): Kolkata Metro progressed as Shri Sumeet Singhal, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), North Frontier Circle, inspected the Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the Green line, which spans 2.63 km.

On 21 January 2025, the first trial run was conducted on the Sealdah-Esplanade stretch of the Green Line. Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway and Chairman, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL), and other senior officers of Metro Railway and KMRCL were present during the trials.
At Esplanade metro station, Shri Singhal inspected the air-conditioning and fire-fighting systems and other Safety features. He also boarded a trolley towards eastward and westward tunnels to inspect the cross-passages, tunnel curves, and the egress shaft at Bowbazar’s Durga Pituri Lane.
The metro spokesperson mentioned that Anuj Mittal, MD, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC), the implementing agency of the Rs 10,000 crore East-West Metro, and other Metro Railway and KMRC officials accompanied the CRS.
A spokesperson of Metro Railways stated, “Once the formal sanction comes from the CRS, the entire 16.6 km of the Green Line can be launched. Passengers will be able to travel from Sector V to Howrah Maidan, via the Hooghly, at last.”
