New Delhi: Delhi Metro’s intricate network – the Lajpat Nagar to Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus section – would soon be open to public. The Pink Line netwrok is scheduled to be operational from August 6. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

Kejriwal will be joined by Minister of State (Independent Charge), Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri. The inauguration will take place from Metro Bhawan via remote control. Passengers can board the train from 1:00 am onwards in the afternoon.

The total length of Delhi Metro that is operational will increase to 296 km once the stretch becomes operational.

In the new Pink Line stretch there will be 23 trains, running every 5 minutes 12 seconds in peak hours. During non-peak hours the frequency will be 5 minutes 45 seconds.

The new Pink Line stretch is part of Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor. It will have six stations in all – Sir Vishweshariah Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar. Additionally INA and Lajpat Nagar to act as interchange stations for the Violet Line and Yellow Line respectively.

With this new line, a lot of traffic will be off Delhi’s arterial roads. Sarojini Nagar with multi-level parking is a nightmare. The parking lot is notorious for traffic growls.

Commuting for people travelling towards Gurugram and North Delhi will become easier. Thanks to NIA facilitating as interchange station.

Lajpat Nagar and South Extension have been reeling under traffic woes owing to metro construction. With the line open, these two areas will see immense relief from traffic.

Major Highlights

Shoppers are going to go gaga over this stretch. This new line connects four most popular shopping hubs. These include Lajpat Nagar, INA, South Extension and Sarojini Market. Footfalls in these markets will increase as shoppers will throng in large number.

The other remarkable aspect of this new Pink Line is that it will be the longest metro route. As per information it measure in 59km in length starting from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar.
