MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): To increase connectivity and alleviate traffic in the city, MMRCL has submitted a proposal to the government of Maharashtra for a new underground metro corridor (Line 11), which will serve as the extension of Line 4 (Green Line). This new corridor will stretch about 17.5km from Anik Depot to the Gateway of India.

This new corridor will become 3rd underground metro Line in Mumbai. Similar to Line 3, this new corridor will have one at-grade station, and the rest of the stations will be underground. The cut-and-cover method will be opted for in the construction of 8 stations out of 13 stations. The remaining 5 underground stations will be constructed using the NATM method.

This line will traverse through the densely populated areas of the southern part of Mumbai. According to an official from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL), the proposal for the new line has been submitted to the Government of Maharashtra. Upon receiving approval, the proposal will be forwarded to the central government for further consideration.

As per the initial plans, Line 11 will feature 6-coach trainsets. The new corridor will intersect with existing Line 4, Line 3, Mumbai Monorail, and the lifeline of Mumbai (suburban railway).
