The trajectory of budgetary support has soared high for the metro rail sector. In the Union Budget 2026, ₹28,740 crore has been allocated for metro and mass rapid transit projects across the country.
Lucknow Metro Gets ₹1,450 Crore Boost
The Union Budget 2026 has given a major boost to Lucknow Metro Phase 1B project with an allocation of ₹1,450 crore for the project. Lucknow Metro Phase 1B project covers one metro corridor.
This corridor spans 11.165km from Lucknow Railway Station (Charbagh) to Vasant Kunj covering 12 stations. Out of these 12 stations, 5 stations will be elevated while 7 stations will be underground. The Union Cabinet approved the Phase 1B project on 12 August at an estimated cost of Rs 5,801 crore.
Pune Metro Gets ₹517 Crore Boost
The Union Budget 2026 has allocated an estimated ₹517 crore for the Pune Metro project. However, the Maha-Metro is yet to receive a detailed breakup of the allocation. The officials stated that a clear execution roadmap will be drawn up once the funding specifics are communicated.
