The Calcutta Municipal Corporation, BSNL, CESC and other agencies said they were ready to shift their underground utilities to make way for the proposed Mahakaran station.Mahakaran station had originally been planned on Brabourne Road but the state government opposed the proposal on grounds of traffic disruptions and displacement of people.At the last meeting, the KMRC had agreed in principle to alter the alignment of the project, as proposed by the state government to avoid reclaiming land and shifting utilities from the central business district.Japan International Cooperation Agency, which is providing Rs 2,253 crore out of the budgeted Rs 4,875 crore for the project, had been initially opposed to any change in the scope of work because that would raise the project expenditure. The Japanese funding agency has since been forced to ease its stand to save the project.Construction company Afcons has been asked to start creating the proposed tunnel under the Hooghly and build a shaft at Laldighi to bring out the boring machine on the Calcutta side.The shaft will require 440sq m of land, for which a tram track and a few utilities need to be shifted. The Mahakaran station would require 5,500sq m of land, for which the tram depot would need to be relocated along with several underground utilities.Another challenge is getting the Archaeological Survey of India’s permission to build the shaft at a site close to the Currency Building, which is a heritage structure.A joint team of the KMRC, police and other departments of the state government did a survey of the proposed alignment on Wednesday morning.According to the report, Rani Rashmoni Road would need to be closed to build the proposed Esplanade station. “This will inconvenience a lot of people. We have asked consulting agency Rites to find out whether a diversion is possible to avoid completely blocking this busy road,” transport secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay said.The survey covered Raj Bhavan and Esplanade too.

Alstom’s Delhi Metro corruption trial to start in May 2016
The trial of a division of French engineering firm Alstom, accused by Britain’s Serious Fraud Office of making corrupt payments in a contract for the Delhi Metro, is set to begin in May next year, following proceedings held in London on Tuesday.
At a crowded plea hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London, both sides agreed to a trial date of May 23 2016, for Phase 1 of what is likely to be a three-phase trial. Alstom Network U.K. is alleged to have paid €3.3 million in bribes disguised as payments for “consultancy agreements” to obtain infrastructure contracts relating to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, as well as contracts for infrastructure projects in Poland and Tunisia.
The prosecution said that it awaited testimony from individuals in India, which it expects to receive by July 31.

Jaipur: Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) Chetan Bakshi inspected Jaipur Metro rolling stocks on Sunday and gave satisfactory remarks. With this, it is expected the project is inching closer to commercial run and expected to be operated in March end.Project director Ashwani Saxena said, “As per the mandatory norms, CMRS approval is necessary. The rolling stocks were inspected today and now the JMRC will receive the recommendations and approval of the CMRS. We have also requested him to carry out inspection of the corridor in February-end or March first week.”The JMRC was targeting to complete its pending work of four stations by December 31 and expecting the commercial run by March 2015. However, it still appears a herculean task as at present major works at Ram Nagar, Civil Lines, Railway Station and Sindhi Camp stations are still pending.It was informed that JMRC has already started the service run in which everyone from station masters of nine stations, signaling staff and train operators are on duty. The exercise is to acclimatize the staff with the operation of the railways. Others, including customer care executives, are also on duty during the service run.The much-delayed Jaipur Metro project is just a step closer towards being operational. So far, the Jaipur Metro has cleared the speed test and obtained the mandatory certification. Recently, the railway’s research arm, RDSO had issued necessary approvals for city’s first Metro corridor between Mansarovar and Chandpole. A top speed of 80 km per hour has been set for the Metro, which is expected to roll out soon, officials said.The average speed of the Jaipur Metro on the 9.25 km route will be 32 km per hour. “Metro trains will not be allowed to cross 42 km per hour at curves. Hyderabad Metro to complete safety tests today
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metro Rail have to complete its safety certification tests on today, Wednesday 28, 2015, moving a step closer to launch its Phase-I service along the 8 kms Nagole-Mettuguda route on March 21, 2015.Research Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO), which began the mandatory tests on January 14, would complete the testing process on today. Based on its report, the Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) would issue the final clearance/safety certificate for the Hyderabad Metro to begin its services.“The RDSO is expected to give its report by February 7. The state government, along with the project concessionaire Larsen & Toubro, will apply for CMRS clearance based on the RDSO report. The total process should be completed before the first week of March,” said an official in the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD).While Metro trains have covered over 5,000 km during the ongoing trial run, the MU&UD official said that the RDSO conducted various tests including traction at various speeds, load test and track oscillation. “The trains have covered 1,200 km during the RDSO tests alone,” the official added.Meanwhile, chief secretary Mr. Rajiv Sharma took stock of the preparedness in the run-up to the service launch along the Nagole-Mettuguda stretch during the weekly review meeting of the Special Task Force (STF) at the Secretariat on Tuesday.“The chief secretary said that all ground-level works such as improving the carriageway, sidewalks and junctions in the Nagole-Mettuguda stretch be taken up on priority by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited ( HMRL),” said an HMRL release.On the proposed realignment of the project, MA&UD sources said that the state government has asked L&T to study its feasibility on various aspects, including the commercial implications and the construction major is studying the same.While fixing the deadline of mid-March to complete the process of property acquisition for the project, the chief secretary also asked officials to explore the feasibility of entrusting security at metro stations to the Special Protection Force (SPF).
