CMRL invites fresh tenders for its Phase-two project

CHENNAI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro rail Ltd. (CMRL) has invited fresh bids nearly after two weeks of cancelling the six tenders for the construction of Phase-2 of the Metro Project to get new contractors. The earlier bidding was cancelled because the lowest bidders gave quite exorbitant quotes for carrying out the work. The new contractors will construct the two corridors from Madhavaram to SIPCOT and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur. Earlier, the tenders got cancelled because the quote submitted was 40-50% higher than the estimate made by the Chennai Metro Rail. Now, CMRL has rolled out fresh tenders to complete the process in the next 3-4 months. Moreover, the CMRL has also posted the cost estimation so that contractors can know the amount beforehand. The estimated value for constructing five underground stations from Kilpauk Medical College to Thousands of Lights is 1,176 crores.

Revised deadlines for the completion of the project are still in process because there will be delays because of the cancellation of these tenders. The two contractors already engaged in building tunnels are also carrying out the excavation work now. The immediate priority is to construct the diaphragm wall at some specific locations between the Madhavaram to Taramani, after which the tunnelling process can start smoothly.

MAHSR Project: 98.5% of Land Acquisition process completed in Gujarat whereas Maharashtra lags behind

NEW DELHI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): As per the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the deadline for the trial on the 50km stretch of Bilimora to Surat of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is 2026, but it may get extended to 2027 also. The land acquisition work is also carried out at an incredible pace as 98.5 % of land in Gujarat has been procured, whereas, in Maharashtra, it’s only 44% and that too in the Palghar district. On the other hand, not much progress is witnessed on the land acquisition in Mumbai and Thane region.

Moreover, the officials of NHSRCL also proclaimed that until and unless the land acquisition process is not completed, there cannot be any clear deadline for starting the bullet train on the entire route of 508km Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.

Satish Agnihotri, MD, NHSRCL, stated that they are still waiting for the land acquisition process to get over in Maharashtra. They are continuously in talks with the State Government about this. As per the recent updates, 44% of the land has been acquired in three districts of Maharashtra- Thane, Palghar and Mumbai, for ex: In Palghar, from 287 hectares of land, 116 hectares of land remains to be acquired. The land required in Mumbai and Thane districts is around 432 hectares comprising of the forest, private and government land, whereas, in Gujarat, the NHSRCL has already acquired the 98% of the 352 Km of land needed for the project.

On 26 December, CM of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, visited the casting yard at Surat to get the project’s updates. Presently, 950 girders are being cast at the yard, which will take 15 days to complete the project. The next batch of 1500 girders will establish the most robust pillars and rail girders to accommodate bullet trains running at 350 kmph. The project’s total estimated cost is Rs.1.08 Lakh crores, out of which Rs. 72,000 crores will be spent in Gujarat only. NHSRCL also exclaimed about the cost going up.

A contract for the Agra Metro Rail project has been signed between India and EIB

AGRA, INDIA (Metro Rail News): On Thursday, India and the European Investment Bank (EIB) inked a finance deal for the Agra Metro Rail Project’s first tranche loan of Euro 250 million. According to a press release from the Ministry of Finance, Rajat Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, signed the loan document on behalf of the Government of India, and Edvardas Bumsteinas, Head of Divisions, signed the loan document on behalf of the European Investment Bank (EIB) in New Delhi and Brussels, respectively.

The Agra Metro project in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, was inaugrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conference last year, according to the press release. EIB had approved a total loan of Euro 450 million to fund the Agra Metro Rail Project. 

According to the statement, the project intends to offer a safe, dependable, cheap, and environmentally friendly public Mass Rapid Transit System for Agra city, which will boost mobility and assist efforts for planned urban expansion in Agra.

The EIB loan would assist fund the building of a 29.4-kilometer metro line in Agra City, which will include Corridor-1 from Sikandara to Taj East Gate (14 km) and Corridor-2 from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar (15.4 km). According to the statement, the initiative will also boost the city’s economic output and help create jobs.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is the Government of India’s line ministry for this project and Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (UPMRCL) is the implementing agency.

Pune Metro’s two lines work is still not completed after 5 years

PUNE, INDIA (Metro Rail News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the much-delayed Pune Metro project on December 18, 2016. However, the project has encountered a few roadblocks while attempting to travel its many paths since then. As the December 2021 deadline approaches, the two metro lines are still not finished after five years.

Covid-imposed limitations, which resulted in a major departure of workers, caused the work to be delayed, according to officials. The project has been on and off the rails several times, due to a variety of issues ranging from political wrangling among parties to land acquisition issues.

The work at Sambhaji bridge, commonly known as Lakdi Pul, has been halted, adding to the growing list of roadblocks. The Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Shiv Sena, the three Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners, have opposed the height of the viaduct at Lakdi pul because it will hinder Ganesh’s emersion process.

“The of Sambhaji bridge is five-and-a-half meters, which is the same along Karve Road,” Maha-Metro (Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited) executive director Atul Gadgil said. The level of all PMC flyovers is also the same. We’ve requested police protection so that we can resume work on the viaduct at Sambhaji Bridge in Deccan. Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate are the two metro routes being built by Maha-Metro.

The first roadblock was deciding whether to build an elevated or underground metro; it wasn’t until union minister Nitin Gadkari got involved that the authorities decided on an elevated metro. Another stumbling block was the Pataleshwar caves on JM road; despite calls for it to be built parallel to the city, the metro was diverted from Karve Road to riverfront road instead of JM road.

The project was later contested before the National Green Tribunal (NGT), but it was ultimately approved. The metro route was challenged again at Aga Khan Palace, and the court-ordered Maha-Metro to amend the route because it was a monument. The corridor was subsequently changed to Kalyaninagar. At Kamgar Putala and Budhear Peth, there was also a dispute over land acquisition.

Chennai-Mysuru high-speed rail line project is in full swing

CHENNAI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): The final contract to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the 435-kilometer Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru high-speed rail line project appears to be progressing quickly. The company will develop line alignment drawings where the line crosses rivers, canals, bridges, roads, railway lines, highways, and other similar facilities, as well as a basic drawing of the stations. Work on completing a thorough alignment mapping is currently underway. The contract is the seventh and last step in preparing a DPR.

On standard gauge lines, trains will travel at 300 kmph-320 kmph if everything goes according to plan and the route is open. It will take only one and a half hours to travel between the three cities. Shatabdi Express currently travels the trip in seven hours.

Two lines will need to be installed along a walled corridor that is 50 to 60 meters long. Even though a final alignment map is being prepared, a separate contract has been awarded to a company to map only the terrain where the line must cross rivers, smaller water bodies, and other obstacles because the rules require a thorough study, which includes up to two kilometers on either side of the line in the case of rivers.

Because of the high speed, the terrain and its character surrounding the line, stations, and depots must be investigated before the alignment and stations can be planned, according to a railway official. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL) chose nine stations in the state a year ago, including Chennai, Poonamallee, and Arakkonam, and awarded contracts for final alignment design, environmental impact assessment, and environmental management plan early this year.

The final alignment is being prepared using LiDAR technology, which allows for the mapping of the landscape, including rivers and minor water bodies, in three to four months rather than nearly a year, because the terrain will be mapped using an aircraft equipped with sensors. The NHSRCL will float tenders for civil work after the DPR and environmental impact study are finished, according to an official.

The high-speed line is scheduled to open in 2051, according to the National Rail Plan. The Chennai-Mysuru line is one of six proposed corridors, which also include Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Delhi-Varanasi.

Kanpur Metro Awarded as ‘Green Metro’ by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)

KANPUR, INDIA (Metro Rail News): Kanpur Metro’s Priority Section has been certified as a “Green Metro Rail System” by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), one of India’s top authorities for the rating (Silver, Gold, and Platinum) and certifying a system as a “Green” system. All nine Metro Stations of the Priority Section built between IIT and Motijheel have received Platinum rating certificates.

Shri Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. ( UPMRC), was presented with Platinum rating certificates today at an event held at UPMRC’s Administrative Office in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the International Green Building Council (IGBC) performed a joint survey in December, after which the nine stations of Kanpur Metro’s Priority Section received the highest rating (Platinum).

“We make arrangements at the designing stage itself that the Metro premises should be entirely environmentally friendly and ready for energy conservation,” Shri Kumar Keshav stated, expressing his delight with the achievement. UPMRC is said to be committed to ensuring that the necessary procedures for environmental management are in place, from rainwater harvesting to energy conservation. UPMRC has reached another milestone on its way to providing the public with a clean and green Metro system, for which I applaud my entire team. The Priority Section of the Kanpur Metro has already been awarded ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for safety management.”

UPMRC has planted over 10,000 plants and saplings at various points along with the Kanpur Metro’s Priority Section and translocated over 100 trees to achieve this highest IGBC rating. Furthermore, it has devised plans to collect rainwater that falls on the roofs of the stations and the viaduct. In addition, to save energy, 100% LED lighting (in the depot, stations, and other metro properties), maximum daylighting, optimal waste management, and other green efforts were implemented.

TransLink Infra. Consultants got the tender of High-Speed Rail project

NEW DELHI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): TransLink Infrastructure Consultants got the tender of making General Arrangement Drawings (GAD) develop DPR’s for the new High-Speed Rail (HSR) in India, whose total length is 2365 Km.

The given contract is associated with the four new high-speed rail lines for which surveying works are still going on:

· Delhi – Amritsar High-Speed Rail (approx. 459 km)

· Mumbai – Hyderabad High-Speed Rail (approx. 711 km)

· Chennai – Mysuru High-Speed Rail (approx. 435 km)

· Varanasi – Howrah High-Speed Rail (approx. 760 km)

The NHSRCL has invited bids for this low-cost package by mid-March 2021 with a 240-day deadline. Technical bids were opened in June to announce 25 tenders. During the test, three firms were withdrawn – Dynamic Projects, aXYKno Capital Services and CE Testing Company.

NEW DELHI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): Even before completing India’s first high-speed bullet train project from Mumbai-Ahmedabad, the Ministry of Railways has thrown seven more bullet train projects, including the one between New Delhi to Ayodhya and the PM’s constituency of Varanasi.

The senior railway official reiterated that just like China, India also wants to run on the Chinese lines by connecting all its major cities with high-speed bullet trains. With the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, Mumbaikars will also get a direct linkage to the industrial city of Nagpur. A team of experts from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation is also preparing the DPR of the 766 Km route of the same project.

As per Railway authorities, the preliminary surveys for the feasibility of the corridor have been completed. Moreover, the Ministry has also clarified that connecting Varanasi to New Delhi with High-Speed Bullet Train would be their priority project.

BUDA provides a loan of Rs. 500 crore for the first phase of Patna Metro

PATNA, INDIA (Metro Rail News): As per the official statement given by Satish Kumar Singh, Special Secretary, the Bihar Urban Development Authority and Bihar Housing Development Authority, BUDA has passed the loan of Rs.500 crore for the First Phase of the Patna Metro Rail Project on 17 December 2021. The sanctioned amount will be used for compensating villagers whose land has been acquired for the implementation of the project.

L&T metro Hyderabad raising Rs.13,600 through commercial papers and bonds

Hyderabad, India (Metro Rail News): Larsen and Toubro Metro rail, which runs metro trains in Hyderabad, is getting a loan of Rs. Thirteen thousand six hundred crores (13,600) in bonds and commercial papers. This year, it is one of the most extensive local debts fundraisings in the infrastructure sector. It is because L&T is running in losses, and it wants to compensate by reducing its funding cost by 200 points by replacing high-cost bank loans with new debt. It aims to sell non-convertible debentures worth Rs.8,600 crore with maturities up to five years and commercial papers up to Rs.5,000 crore in tranches spread across maturities for up to a year.

J Kumar Infra. and Sunder Cranes erected the first 28M U-girders for Mumbai Metro’s Line -9 Project

MAHARASHTRA, INDIA (Metro Rail News): On 19th December 2021, J Kumar Infraprojects and Sunder Cranes built the first 28m U-girders to build the 11.38 km for Mumbai’s Metro Line 9 (Red Line) corridor by using two large carriers-straddle.

The landmark incident was recorded between piers P162 and P163 in front of the showroom at Royal Enfield’s Mira Road’s Salasar Center Park. The nearest station was built in Sai Baba Nagar. Last month, J Kumar’s team built their first pier cap at Pier P162.

It’s not the first U-girder introduced in Line-9, though. That historical event was recorded at Thakur Mall using a few cranes in April 2021.

The contract for the construction of Line-9 between Dahisar East and Mira Bhayandar under the CA-48 package was awarded to J Kumar Infraprojects by MMRDA in January 2020 after appearing to be the lowest applicants for this route and Line-7A (line extension).

The contract’s scope includes the construction of two-story viaducts on Kashmira Road 1.5 km, 1.1 km and 754 meters of metro cars and trains, as well as eight stations in Dahisar East (new station box), Pandurang Wadi (in exchange for Line-10), Miragaon, Kashigaon, Sai Baba Nagar, Meaditya Nagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Garden and Subhash Chandra Bose Ground.

Delhi High Court rejects the plea claiming defects in the double-decker viaduct metro project

NEW DELHI, INDIA (Metro Rail News): The Delhi Court refuted the plea that referred to inaction from authorities about some associated defects in the double-decker metro viaducts projects in northeast Delhi.  The bench consisting of the Chief Justice of India D.N. Patel noted that the complaint registered was forming a part of the earlier disposed of plea and issued the directions to authorities concerned to investigate the matters of alleged concerns, and that’s why the petitioner was also free to go for a contempt plea in case of a grievance. Moreover, the other member of the bench, Jyoti Singh, added that the proceedings would not be revived again and dismissed the application.

High Court also directed the government of Delhi to consider the representation of petition filed by Jain Arogya of Naturocare Welfare Society and advocate SD Windlesh as per the government defined rules, law and policies. The petition contained the defects in the double-decker viaduct pink line of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in Northeast Delhi because it will lead to the cutting of thousands of trees which will be a cause of inconvenience to people. However, the project has already gotten approval from the concerned respondents.

The leading cause of concern is the inherent defects of the project on road no. 59, and if it gets executed, thousands of 50 to 70 years of trees will get cut. The double-decker track will be having metro tracks on the upper deck and a flyover for vehicular traffic on a 1.4Km stretch between the Yamuna Vihar and Bhajan Pura stations.

As per the petitioner’s complaint, the project is quite poorly designed and technologically very poor and can easily ruin the thousands of crores of public rupees and create traffic problems if the project is not reviewed or modified.

Afcons has completed the construction of Nagpur Metro Reach-2 Final Part

Nagpur, India(Metro Rail News): Afcons Infrastructure has finally completed the construction of approx. Two thousand segments of Kanpur Metro’s 7.144 km reach-2 (Sitabuldi-Automotive Square). The 38.215 Km long Nagpur Metro Phase-1 Orange line project consists of seven elevated stations and a 4.375 Km double-decker viaduct which includes a four-level structure at Gaddigoddam square.

Moreover, Afcons has already completed trial assembly and load testing for its open Web Girder bridge. Afcons got Rs. Five hundred seventy-three crore contracts in October 2017 for constructing Reach-2 with a 2.3-year deadline. The viaduct work remains at orange’s line Reach-2’s Gaddigoddam Railway Crossing, and on Aqua Line Reach-4’s 1.6 Km Vaishno-Devi Prajapati Nagar section, here another double-decker viaduct is being constructed.
