BANGLADESH (Metro Rail News): The metro rail’s construction from Uttara to Agargaon is around 94.57% complete, and the segment will be ready for commercial operation by December 15 of this year.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Managing Director MAN Siddique stated at a press conference at his office on November 10, “We are attempting to complete all the civil work of this portion within this month.” He mentioned that the train would begin operating blankly (moving without passengers) in the first few days of December.
To finalise the inauguration date, “we will send a proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office shortly,” he added.
MAN Siddique recalled that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had previously intimated that the nation’s first metro rail would be introduced after this year’s Victory Day, which falls on December 16.
“The civil work of seven stations out of nine from Uttara to Agargaon segment has been completed, while the other two are in progress due to some difficulties with spaces, constructing of the entry and exit roads.”
The testing of trains and staff training is ongoing. In addition, he said, a memorandum of understanding for the transportation of passengers after they exit the metro rail will be signed on November 17 with the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation.
Siddique further added that the construction of the first underground metro rail of the country from the Airport to Kamalapur would start with land development soon. “We are going to ink an agreement with the contractor this month, and the inauguration of construction depends on the schedule of the prime minister,” he told the event, also attended by MRT Line-6 ​​Project Director Md Aftabuddin Talukder.
