MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus station in Mumbai will be renovated, and the contract for this work has been awarded to renowned engineering and construction company Ahluwalia Contracts for Rs 2,450 crore.
Earlier, Ahluwalia Contracts claimed the contract to redevelop CSMT with the lowest bid. In contrast to an estimated cost of approximately 2,000 crore rupees, the company quoted 2,450 crore rupees.
Four main participants emerged in the bidding process for the CSMT project after the opening of technical bids on March 15, 2023, when the RLDA issued a call for tenders for the project in October 2022.
Apart from Ahluwalia contracts, Afcons Infrastructure, Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC), and Larsen and Toubro (L&T), had also filed bids for the (CSMT) redevelopment project. The CSMT project has a three-year completion window.
The scope of work for the Mumbai CSMT includes civil work for the station buildings and related infrastructure, primarily an iconic façade, ultra-modern station buildings, heritage building renovations, a separate platform for suburban and long-distance trains, and a connection via skywalk from Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai (previously known as Crawford Market).
The station’s gothic-style heritage architecture, recognised as a world heritage monument by UNESCO, would undergo some significant alterations.
The RLDA stated in April that a decision would be made so that the contracts could be given in May of this year and that the tender committee is tasked with opening the financial bids of the three stations.
